Kito,
I live and work in Peru, having 10 bikes and here is how the insurance works:
If you are at the border, you can buy a short policy... if not the full year is the only option.
Where is the bike registered? That's the price you have to pay. Every place and every company is different, but on average: Lima is about S/.400, Arequipa is about $550, but here in Hunanuco it is only S/.150.
If you have a foreign registered bike, then the cost is WHERE you are asking about it. Go to a cheap place and buy it there!
Cheers! Toby

We bought our bike insurance valid for a month only last week in Chimbote at La Positiva office, so if you are heading that way it is worth trying there. Our bikes are UK registered too and it cost 98soles each.
Good luck

I have bought insurance twice from mapfre, both for short durations. I think it was about 68 soles per month. Google the mapfre office in arequipa. Good luck

We bought Mapfre 5 weeks ago at the Ecuador border and La Positiva this past week in Cusco. Both times it was USD35 or S/100. Peruvian resident we are staying with said it could be had for cheaper but of course said so to late and without details.

Macara, ecuadorian rider
Anyone knows if i can buy one @Macara border.
I need a 30 day SOAT.
Another question:
My bike is owned by my company, based in Ecuador. Is there a problem if I cross de border to peruvian territory with it, on the registration appears the company wich I am the manager, any one can help?
By the way: anyone travelling to Peru from Quito the next June 20th?

Don't know about your specific situation but our vehicles in the US are owned by am LLC which we own.
To get into Mexico we had to provide a document signed by me as director of the LLC for me to drive it into Mexico. Without it, we wouldn't have been issued the TVIP
We have the same situation with our F350 and Bigfoot so again, I will be carrying a notarised permission note just in case.
I imagine the rules are fairly uniform. If the registration or title papers don't have the same name as the passport of the driver, you need authorisation from the legal owners to cross the border.
In Argentina they also require similar permissions to drive a foreign vehicle within the country
