Peru Motorcycle Insurance
Do all land exit borders in Peru ask to see your Peruvian motorcycle insurance when you leave the country? I have read a few reports that they will ask to see it - but we didn't buy any when we entered the country. Just wondering if we might have problems when we head to Bolivia / Chile (not sure which route we're taking yet).
Cheers
Lisa

Cannot remember whether they asked at the border, don't think so, when we were there last year. The police asks for it all the time, so we had 'a document which claimed we had insurance' with us and got away with it every time.

We crossed from Peru into Bolivia at Desaguadero in October 2012. No insurance needed. (But you know by now how much the same crossing can vary...)
Advice above to have an insurance "document" is worthwhile. Make sure it lists Argentina, too.

My partner and I just crossed in to Peru from Macara Ecuador. The aduana would not let us enter our bikes into Peru with out purchasing SOAT insurance for $35.00 for one month period before hand. We will have to keep the insurance documents handy for when we exit.

I crossed the Macara border about 3 weeks ago, Peru - Ecuador. I had the SOAT insurance but was not asked for it.
Similarly importing the bike into Ecuador I was not asked for it (but I think the guy had a hot date lined up - he was out of there before the ink dried!)

I have a 'the other side of the question' question about that. I have Peruvian SOAT insurance, am I going to be hassled to buy through Ecuador or Colombia?
Can I get away with the Peruvian SOAT in those countries?
Anybody run into that situation yet?

In Ecuador we bought the SOAT insurance for one month costing $3.00. we were stopped at least 10 times by police at various check points who wanted to see documents, not once were we asked for insurance.
In Columbia we were stopped at check points, they wanted to see all papers, including insurance. ( the purchase of insurance was required when we imported our bikes from panama to Cartagena Colombia)
Wether you can use the Peruvian SOAT or not, I can not tell you this. We found the When entering Ecuador, we were not required to purchase the Ecuador SOAT insurance but did out of choice as it is so cheap. In Columbia, purchasing the Columbian SOAT was part of the importation process of the motorcycles.

We bought our bikes in Bolivia and had the Bolivian SOAT insurance that came with it
When we crossed into Peru (about 9 months ago) they wouldn't accept the SOAT insurance so we claimed to have "international" insurance ... where we just pulled out a random document from our backpack that was actually our Allianz flight insurance document. Since they couldn't read English they bought it and let us through.
I even said "Look here, deductible" and pointed to where there was a large dollar amount written somewhere on our flight insurance doc.
