Dave and Deb Welton, who have a blog here on HU (can't remember it but you could find it I'm sure doing a search) shipped their two GS650's to Auckland from Santiago in November 2006. I'm sure they have the info you need. Or send me a PM and I will shoot you there email address...

good luck, sounds like a good trip.

Apparently, your bike needs to be SPOTLESS... I guess NZ Agriculture is very particular about bikes and the bugs, seeds, etc. that they may carry. Might want to also check with Lou and Anita at Home page . They shipped from Buenos Aires to NZ, and painted their bikes completely prior to shipping, partially due to this.

Another option

Pooley,
We have recently returned to Australia after spending 5 months in South America. We flew the bike (R 1150GS Adv) from Brisbane to Santiago Sept 06 & shipped it back to Brisbane from Santiago in Feb 07. It went via the port of Valparaiso & took about 8 weeks. We used Integral, who have offices in many countries.
Contact in Santiago is:

Integral Chile S.A.
Jesús González
Operations Manager
jgonzalez@integralchile.com
Phone (56-2) 430-2450
Fax (56-2) 430-2455
Mobile (56-8) 9021947
Integral Chile

We were happy with the service, but you need to push them to get responses as they can sometimes be a bit slow. My suggestion is also to not take things for granted. To ensure there were no stuff-ups, we did our own research the paperwork requirements etc. We flew out of the country before the bike was loaded onto the ship, so there was the potential for a disaster. However, Integral have a better understanding of whats involved now as I don't think they had done many bikes for foriegners before. Tell Jesus I referred you.
Also, if NZ is similar to Oz (which I understand it is), I agree with gpothoven that your bike should be as clean as you can possibly get it. In Oz, Quarantine determine if it is clean enough & if not they get a contractor to clean it on your behalf & at your cost. Fortunately we got it through with few problems.
If you are planning on coming to Australia, let me know. We would be keen to meet with you, can possibly help out with ride planning & have contacts for getting the bike into Oz.
Cheers

Shipping to NZ

Thanks for the tips, yes we hope to be in NZ possibly by Feb 08, and after exploring the islands on to Ozz, we'll drop you a line when we get close if you're up for a coffee.
Regards, Pooley.

No worries

Pooley,
Catching up for a coffee would be great. We'd also be keen to show you around if the timing is right.
As things get close, send us an email at: mark_aasha@yahoo.com
We've normally got a spare room & garage also.
Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
