SOAT Bolivia LaPaz

Getting the SOAT in La Paz
Coming from North (Cobacabana) you will not get SOAT at the border. They ask you to get it in La Paz.

You can get the SOAT in La Paz here:
Illimani Seguros
Avenida Camacho and Av. Colon
The entrance is hidden behind a bus stop and is a dark entrance.
(see image attached)
Office is in the second floor.

We paid 190 Bs for each bike.
Took us 10 minutes to get it. You can only pay cash.

The Illimnami Head-Office is actually half a block down (Building Mariscal Ayacucho) on the 10th floor. You can NOT get the SOAT there.

We have not been asked for it till now, but it is certainly worth to have it in case you do have an accident (well, but that just might be a German thing to always try to be prepared for the worst ) )

SOAT in Potosi

Hi,
Just for further information, we just purchased SOAT for motorcycle at Alliance insurance in Potosi at Calle Orouro 509, cost 190B. Very helpful people dealing with our limited spainish!
We had tried to purchase at Arica before entering bolivia, but seemed not possible to buy in Chile, none evident at the border either.

If you have the GPS coordinates it would be useful to post it on iOverland.com so future travelers will benefit from your experience.

Some changes in La Paz

Ok, I just went today to get my SOAT and there has been some changes. The location above is no longer open

But just around the corner at Edificio Ayacucho on the 10th floor is the main office, where they can do liability insurance only. $110us for three months that is good in Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. -16.49904 -68.13321

If you want SOAT you need to go to Alianza Seguros at Av 20 De Octubre and Av Kantutani. Do not go to this office

You want this one across the street

-16.51338 -68.12354

Be careful of the hours though, or you'll be waiting like me

You will need either your title or registration, which ever has the license plate printed on it, your passport and/or visa, and import document for the moto. It took me 10 minutes with the really nice Grandmother and 190BOB for three months of insurance. Accident only, not liability.

Dahbeed.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
