Fixed to Sth America section.
Sorry to hear about your clutch problem. Bad luck-
Your have a private message with a lot of information which you could find useful.
You cannot send private messages until you make another 9 posts. ( I think- I haven't checked lately).
- Go to the COMMUNITIES page here
- Read the 'How-To' to help you get it right-
- Put a dot in the community you want to contact
- scroll down to bottom of page and fill in details
- fill in as much detail as you can then press the green button to send your message
(see screen shot below my old bike pics)
Changing a clutch is not a five minute job on these behemoths- the bike has to be split in half-
Then there is the servo problem which, once refilled, needs a vacuum pump to draw new brake fluid through once reassembled. The nipple is in the wheel arch behind the rear wheel.
Good luck to you.

Don't despair - yet. It may be the clutch slave cylinder - located at the rear of the gearbox.

Don't be too hard on Gonzalo, he is a busy fello running a moto shop in Bogota Colombia and helping out advers, hubbers and travellers for their needs, now it is his turn to get help.
Gonzalo, we can't do much from here but best with getting her sorted.
Cheers Andi

Might be worth phoning Gonzalo Arce up in Sucre at his moto tienda - Hi Store:
64-61627
He may be able to direct you to someone in Uyuni - I think there is a garage there which is part of the same group that Gonzalo belongs to (although I didn't see it when I was there). Or help you transport you bike if it can't get fixed in Uyuni.
Good luck!!
Paul

I'd contact the BMW dealer here in Santa Cruz. PM me if you want any help. I'm here in town (Santa Cruz) and wouldn't mind stopping by the dealer and talking to them to see if they can help you out. You can call them yourself as well, of course:
Andar Motors 3 3452665

I know Santa Cruz is a bit far from Uyuni, but I think its probably your best shot at finding parts for BMW.
good luck and let me know if I can help

Hi, sorry about your bad luck. Be careful about BMW dealers down here. We've had our own problems with our BMWs on our trip (Forida - Peru ... in fact, we're stuck again just before the border to Bolivia and it may be the end of our trip due to recurring issues with the cooling system and we're just simply fed up with it all ... lots of $$$ invested). We've visited multiple dealerships along the way because we needed parts. Unfortunately none of their mechanics know what they're doing. So be aware of that!
Maybe BMWs aren't what they used to be ... we actually contacted the head quarters and told them about our bad experiences with their shops in SA ... no reply. We're not impressed. Bad customer service all the way.
I'm also upset about some of the comments of "veteran Hubbers" (I saw the replies you got ...). Maybe they're just jealous because we're out there riding while they're stuck in front of the computer at home. Bitter, mean and nasty. I've got my own share of odd replies from their kind, too. Never mind that shit. I hope you'll be able to figure out a solution to your problems. Good luck and keep a cool head!

Don't know whether ur still stuck in Uyuni but there is a guy I'd trust to advise me named Nicky in Sucre, company is MotoCar. He knows bikes well, not sure if he'll take apart a BM but he could give you tips on Santa Cruz maybe - which aside from La Paz - is your only option I think. See link for contacts:

(...or tried to talk to it nicely in German perhaps?.... :/ )

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
