Tourist Visas
Hi all new here and planning my RTW starting by entering Mexico then central and South America etc. My question is I am Canadian and looked up that with the exception of Brazil, all that is needed is what is called a tourist visa. Do you get that at the border of each country? I know when I have gone to Mexico on a hot holiday in the past nothing was required other than my passport. Do I get them back home before i leave, but I see they are either 30/60/90 days only.

In Mexico and Central America as Canadian, you can get everything on the legal border crossings, but carrying a moto with foreign plates, you will only be able to pass during bank hours and/or Aduana hours, which sometimes are open on Saturday and Sundays, but varies.

Thanks scooper, I guess I just need to make sure I have my passport, vehicle registration etc. I guess the first time I cross will be the big learning experience.

For Mexico and Central America it's all done at the borders. When you fly to Mexico the tourist visa is usually included in the price of your airline ticket and that's why nothing else was required then. Be aware that when you enter Mexico, they'll more than likely just wave you through. It's up to you to stop and get the proper paperwork since there is a 30km "free zone" along the US border. If you don't get the paperwork you'll most likely get turned back at the check points down the road. Mexico will take credit cards but I don't believe the Central American borders do.

Thanks will check your post on all your border crossings. Agree do not want to have to drive 30 miles then turn back. Once I cross, I believe the 3 things I need are bike insurance, tourist visa, and I guess get my bike registered as well/stamped. Sound correct?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
