Unleaded in Argentina and Chile?

My bike, a R1150GS, has a catalytic converter. I am told that leaded fuel will not only ruin the cat, but also stop the bike running if the cat gets blocked. So, if I am on Ruta 40 in Argentina, 100 miles from the back-end of no-where, can I still expect to find unleaded? Or is leaded a real possibility as our only option?

Thanks, Nick

Hey Nick,

Unleaded available everywhere along the Ruta 40. In case of emergency your bike will run fine on leaded for a few miles before topping up with unleaded, and you don´t need the cat anyway

You wanna be absolutely, 100% positive that you always fill up with unleaded? Buy a jerrycan...

Have fun in the South!

Nick, I've just ridden through Argentina and Chile, etc. Both countries had plenty of unleaded available. YPF and Shell stations seem to be very clean and reliable, as is Texaco. As the others said, unleaded fuel is no problem- the police can be though! When in northern Argentina, you DON'T have to have a fire extinguisher with you! H

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
