Ushuaia in winter? Right now? Possible?
I’m trying to find information on current road conditions and weather down there. I look at weather apps and see it’s cold buuut it’s above freezing and I can deal with those temperatures.
My main concern is if the roads are frozen or what kind of snow we’re talking a about . How do y’all find information on this?
Is it possible? Or am I dreaming. I’ve been talking to people City by city and get mixed reviews. Some people say go do it. Others say impassable. Never know what to believe. I’m currently in Mendoza and was told it was freezing here / snow.... but it ain’t that bad. Riding around comfortably.
So, Ushuaia in July? Yay / nay? How can I find detail road conditions?

Looked it up. Still couldn’t find it. Saw some guy on a quad crossing a snowy river. Some people say they done it. Some say nah. No questions answers really.
Looking on where people find road conditions or their experience during winter. Care to point me in a direction?

Thanks. Yah looks like finding those dry gaps will have me waiting a lot. I think I’m wrap this up. Now just have to find how the hell to cross into Chile where temps aren’t below freezing

Hi dvvjd.
A friend, member of a local ( brazilian ) forum ( Clube XT600 ) did it in 2009, and documented it quite well on a post:
A GRANDE Aventura Gelada!USHUAIA no inverno! fotos pag 27 - CXT Brasil
It's in brazilian portuguese, but google translator is your friend now :-)
From what I remember, the worst part of his trip was the way back, through ruta 40, near Perito Moreno, where he found some rain that turned the ripio into mud and made the cold even worse. He had some mechanical problems, mostly because of the road conditions ( the mud clogged his XT660 radiator, and it was overheating on below zero temps ! ). If you stick to the east route, through ruta 3's tarmac, you'll probably be ok. Some slowdowns eventually ( like the ferry in tierra del fuego that closes on super-windy days, that are not that rare ), but it's just a matter of your bike's buyer waiting a little more in some cozy cabin in Santiago !
By the way, nice DR ! Got me itching to kick job and start my long way up from santiago.
Hope it helps. Ride safe !

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
