Standard caveat: I have no medical training, but I've traveled a lot, and I've been paying attention most of the time. I've heard some astoundingly stupid things said about medications, even by otherwise-intelligent people. Anyone planning to self-diagnose and treat using the above stuff had best research well and be prepared to suffer the consequences in the event of mistakes. Of course, mistakes happen frequently when you rely on medical professionals, too.
