Question Malaria tabs: by a bunch before leaving or

plan on buying them in the country in which you are traveling? We will buy a 60 day service before leaving the states for Mexico & South America. Won't need them in Europe. Availabilty and price in SA? Africa?

Thanks, Joe

Take some Malarone with you, 12 tablets was enough to nuke the 'resistant' strain I caught in Guyana. Never felt so ill, would'nt wish it on my ex-wife.

Generally doxycycline will be OK for S.America - there are maps (CDC website) showing where the various strains of malaria exist so you can choose the right meds.

I used the same reasoning and came unstuck: no Malarone in UAE, Oman or yemen, where I did catch Malaria. Buy it before you leave. It is so expensive, nobody bothers importing it into third world countries.

a-m tabs

Cost can be an issue with Malarone on long trips (they don't yet like to perscribe for more than 4weeks on the trot either - not that that would stop me).

Malarone is cheaper in SA and you can get it over the counter but it's still many times the price of the other am's.

Remember too that on my 4 month trip UK to SA, the size of all the doxy tablets, even out of their packets, was the same as my little washbag!
I would still take all the tabs I need with me if I went again.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
