Motorcycle luggage & equipment insurance
Hi there, very new to this website so just getting up to speed with it all. I'm leaving Scotland end of October 2022 to travel overland on my T7 towards India then onto Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam.
I'm looking for advice/guidance on where other travellers have obtained insurance for their luggage and equipment.
If you're able to help me that would greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Guy

The question is how/whether you obtain travel insurance for the entirety of the trip to begin with. If you have travel insurance that will cover a trip of this magnitude AND expressly allow riding a large motorcycle (a frequent small-print exclusion), then the contents of your panniers will be covered in the same way as the contents of your suitcase/backpack would be in a normal trip.
If you mean damage to the pannier itself - well, that's again a question of full vehicle insurance (not just third-party liability/traffic insurance). If you have it, then your panniers should be covered.
That said, you may find that between the cost of such an insurance policy, the deductibles, and the headaches of filing a claim and having it recognized, it may be much better for your mental health to only take along things that you would not be massively sad to lose, or have too much trouble replacing on the road. The panniers themselves are probably what, half a grand? You'll be taking as much again in nice-ish camping equipment, a cheap laptop or tablet, a medium-nice camera? In the grand scheme of the budget of such a trip, it's not worth losing sleep over, not at this stage in your planning.

Hi there, really appreciate you replying.
It's more having panniers/belongings stolen. I'm covered from UK to Turkey but beyond that it'll be insurance purchased at borders which I'm guessing won't cover theft of belongings.
I'll have my full insurance through IMG but medical only and not equipment.
I'll just need to be super careful and/or take the hit if anything goes amiss.
Thanks again for your response.

Correct - insurance that you purchase at the border as you enter countries only provides the minimum legally required liability insurance, nothing more. That is universal.
There is a very small possibility that you might be covered for theft of your belongings (not the vehicle or any vehicle parts) by your household insurance policy - take a close look at it, or call your insurance company and ask.
