Best places to ship parts to - West Africa

Hi all,

I’m currently prepping for a London to Cape Town trip later this year. Anticipating something will inevitably break some where along the way which will require parts to be shipped from the UK, I’d like to get a better picture of the best places along to do that to - in terms of getting stuff through customs as easy as possible, as quickly as possible. Appreciate that I may be asking about the lesser of a variety of evils here, but I’d still like to hear.

What are people’s experiences of any particular locations, for better or for worse?

Thanks

Ed

If my plans don't implode I should be commuting between Europe and Nigeria a few times per year. Bringing parts into LOS or PHC shouldn't be a problem.

But then again it is usually out of ones control where things break down.

I had to order parts from Europe when I was in Brazzaville. I wrote about my Brazza experience here

Nico, the boss at Congo Motors, had a friend of his transport some KTM spares into Congo for me.

Got some parts by DHL to Luanda from Sydney. Very fast, no issues with customs although had the invoice value listed as (from memory) $50.

I should be in Cote d'Ivoire more permanently soon, currently there 5 months a year and have assisted a few members already.

If you need to get things to me do ask, I will probably be flying to Europe quite a bit still as well as to other cities in the sub-region

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
