Buying a bike in Ghana/Togo

Hello,

A good friend of mine and myself are planning a trip from ghana/togo to morocco in summer 2010. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to buy bikes in or around these countries so we would not have to ship them over.

Hi,
I'm planning the same trip. I want to leave in Nov. 2010 and have 1 month for travelling. Don't do this in the summer time, you will melt away. It is to hot in the summer.

Thanks for the info, however it is the only time I have available to do it. From what I have been asking a month is a really short time to make the trip but is doable, without a lot of sightseeing. I will probably wear extremely light protection for most of the journey to ensure that I remain cool.

Check out my post in route planning for more info on the route you will be taking.

Do a search for previous posts about buying in Accra. I´m on the road and can´t do it for you (besides, i think you might need the practice). There´s at least one dealer in Accra plus lots of places to buy used. 250 is considered a large bike, however, and options for outfitting will be scant (i.e., nonexistant if you´re in a hurry, which you will be).

And yeah, I hope you´re being realistic about your abilities and understanding of what ¨hot¨ means in this context.

enjoy,

Mark

If you are buying new, TonyTogo in Lome, Togo is a big KTM dealer, last time I was there they had like 30-40 new KTM bikes on display.
Prices are like buying in Europe.

For used, you you should be able to buy in Togo or Acrra/Kumasi in Ghana. Lots of bikes for sale at Accra but usually more variety in sports bike than dual sports.

I can assure you, in June you will be far from 'remaining cool'!!!

Good luck

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
