Cabinda to Luanda with an 1150GS
I am hoping to ride my Moto this October from Yaounde Cameroon to Pointe Noire Congo and then on to Angola.
However I would like to avoid DRC.
Anyone know of a way to get a big bike like this from Cabinda directly to Luanda or elsewhere in the main part of Angola?
I understand there is a small boat from Cabinda to Soyo but believe it is not suitable for a big Moto like this(nor is the road south from Soyo).
A new and modern ferry has just been delivered but my Luanda sources tell me the earliest it will run to Luanda is December.
Secondly, anyone had difficulty entering Congo Brazzaville on a motorcycle without a carnet de passage? (I have travelled this far without carnet and without difficulty but thought it wise to enquire as the embassy website says you need a cpd to bRing a vehicle in).
All informed advice and suggestions gratefully received!

Simon, you don't need any carnet if you enter by land in Congo.
As for going to Angola, there is also a plane you can take. Will they ask for a carnet when you land, I don't know.
The DRC section between Cabinda and Angola is short. Are you sure it is worth it to avoid it and go through all the trouble of finding a boat/or plane. From other travellers, in the DRC you'll meet some officials asking for money on that road but it is always easy to deal with that.

We took a military plane from Cabinda to Luanda last year. On arrival in Luanda you just drive out of the military airport and that's it, no carnet or document checks that I remember.
Taking the plane is a bit of a hit or miss though. I've heard other travelers not being able to get on it. Basically some high official will have to let you on and will probably pocket most of the money. We paid around 230 USD each. Go to the military airport gate at least the day before you want to fly and hope for the best.

Simon, if you go slowly enough I can catch up and escort you through DRC... or is it you who will be escorting me? Perhaps if we both pretend one is escorting the other it won't be so bad.

Hi,
you have another chance.
I was in Cabinda in 2016 and I had to wait several days for a military plane.
From Cabinda I went to Banana (DRC).
You have to enter the DRC but for a few miles and then a few hours.
Form Banana i took a little boat to Soyo...and than from Soyo to Luanda by motorbike. I drive ktm 990 and we was two people on the bike

So I plan to resume my journey at the beginning of January. In PN I was told the boats from Cabinda are feasible but my Luanda contact tells me the military plane is no longer an option.
