carnet de passage senegal

Hi,me and my son getting off soon for a two month travel of West-Afrika with an old Land-Rover.We want to visit Senegal and Gambia .Can we buy a carnet de passage on the border? How much does it cost?We don't want him to buy in Belgium because you need the signature from someone with a house to secure you!

Carnet de passage

Hi annick,

there is no chance to get a carnet at the border. At the border you can only pay and if you are lucky you get your money back when you are leaving the country. In Germany you get a Carnet at ADAC, you do not have to be member. You get on your way in the Headquarters in Munich.
You only have to bring:
* a copy of your passport or identification card
* a copy of the vehicle registration document
* a copy of the bank transfer of Carnet fee and/ or cash deposit (Credit Cards are not accepted.)

Have a look here: Carnet_e

Have a nice trip,

Lalli

Maybe this answer is tooooo late but anyway helpful for the nextone who search...
We just passed Senegal with a carnet de pasage. they refused it at teh Rosso and Diamma border. you have to buy a laissez passer for 10euro. (any car)
friends of us got to gambia and there you can use the carnet but not nesecarly. comming back to Senegal they could use the carnet. strange that not al douaniers have the same info ?! :-)))

have fun

hi,
sorry, but that is not true anymore.
since about 3 weeks senegal does not accept the carnet de passage.
not at the landborders and also not at the dakar port.

if you enter by land, you will get a passavant.

gambia you do not need carnet, they will give you passavant.

greetz,

I can confirm. We received our Carnet a few days ago with a note inside saying it's no longer required for Senegal. Apparently the president of their motoring association died so they're no longer accepting them. Not sure of the logic there, but good for us. (Not so good for him).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
