KTM garages in Africa
I think Ian Duncan in Nairobi is a good place to get all kinds of KTMs sorted. Parts are a bit dear but they have good mechanics (except after 3pm on Fridays when they are rushed to get home). In fact, Chris Handshuh (c_handschuh_68@yahoo.com) at Jungle Junction in Nairobi can sort out most things too and is an all round good egg.
The next great place is KTM Sharm El Sheikh at the tip of the Sinai in Egypt (info@ktmegypt.com) ... excellent place and good workshop and mechanics, although yet again parts are difficult to come by.
If you are doing the big Africa ride I recommend you bring :
- oil, air and petrol filters (several sets of fuel)
- external petrol pump otherwise your jets or EFi will soon get blocked
- spark plugs
- and carry your spare tyres/inner tubes rather than rely on trying to find them. This allows you to switch between tarmac and off road tyres and maximise usage. Tyre changes get better the more you do them.
- bulbs .. although easier to find H3 and H7 in Africa
