Ethiopia to Kenya - Moyale Road April 2013 - Visa Q!
Hey all!!
Well we couldn't find anyone else to join us with lake Turkana and our friends land rover needs a lot of work doing on it before it can leave so we have opted for the moyale road route this week coming!
We are wondering if any one knows if you can get a Kenyan visa at the moyale road border crossing?!? I read up ages ago we could so haven't thought any more about it but I've heard other rumours this is not the case?
Some other friends did the road last week in a land rover and their report was as below:
Ethiopian sims don't roam in Kenya
Kenyan sims will be disconnected within an hour if you don't register them at point of purchase.
Road from Moyale to Sololo is TERRIBLE, 80kms of potholed mudbath, but after that the rest to marsabit is rough but not difficult. Took us 6hrs
Marsabit, rooms at the jey jey centre on the left only 800ksh, hot shower, clean toilet, secure car park. Have to go out for booze though.
Road from marsabit to Isiolo is graded after the descent from the mountain and thankfully perfectly tarmacced from about halfway down. No worries at all.
Security is fine, military, police n roadbuilding contractors everywhere.
If you stay in isiolo head south a few kms to Rangelands lodge on the right side of the road. But better to carry on to nanyuki n stay at Kongoni on the left just as you are coming into town. 5star facilities.
We will update you guys once in Nairobi how we get on with photos and videos!
Thanks all travel safe!
