Extend Ethiopian Carnet
Hello,
is it possible (and where) to extend the Ethiopian carnet?
How serious will the take it at the border if you stay much longer than granted in the carnet?
Thanks,
Oerg

Hello,
is not clear what you are asking, do you want to extend a carnet in Ethiopia ? Or you want to extend an Ethiopian Carnet (which as far as i know ETHIOPIA DONT issue CARNETs), at the border you shoudnt have much problems since a carnet in Etjiopia is not mandatory.
But if you clear your question maybe i can give a better feedback .
Cheers and happy travels
Mauro

Hello Mauro,
thanks for your reply.
Ethiopia doesn't recognize the normal carnet and therefore issues a special Ethiopian customs declaration (carnet?), which usually is valid for 30 days (at least this period is mentioned in the paper). Im am interested to know, whether it is possible to stay longer with this customs declaration and whetherit is necessary and possible to extend the period of stay which is mentioned in this paper.
Thans,
Oerg

Hi there,
if you are in Ethiopia at the moment, please could you check if it is possible to by or rent a motorbike? Don't need anything fancy just something to get me around the country.
Any info would be highly appreciated!
thanks,
Roland

Hi Oerg
I recently entered Ethiop via Lake Turkana wher there is no customs office so i had no papers. After 5 days of trying to sort out the paperwork in Addis i gave up. When i got to Ethiop / Sudan border i sorted out Immigration and rode past customs into Sudan. No trouble.

For those who come into the same situation:
I got a letter from the central customs office in Addis, which adviced the border customs to let me exit. With this letter it a matter of minutes to exit in Moyale to Kenia. Though I doubt that you get problems without it.

Hello Oerg,
Are you sure Ethiopia doesn't recognize a regular carnet? I just picked up my visa in Nairobi today and THEY wanted to have copies of my carnet. Sounded legit. Where was your Ethiopian carnet issued and how much did it cost? The reason I ask is I want to cross in via Lake Turkana and would rather bypass using my regular carnet since it's an unofficial border point.

Hello Brian,
Ethiopia is not listed as a country which (at least officially) accepts the normal carnet.
They just manually copy the data from your carnet into some customs declaration, which costed me 1$ an which was issued for 30 days. I at that time did not try to get a longer period of time.
