Isiolo to Moyale
Anyone driven this road lately? What's it's condition? Wondering how well the Chinese are doing, thanks!

I did it about three weeks ago on a 125cc Yamaha. All tarmac except 140km. Coming from Isiolo you'll have 86km of gravel to Marsabit and then another 55km between Marsabit and Moyale. It's very easy, though. I could do most of the gravel in top gear. No mud, no sand, no big rocks. Just a good dirt road.

Safe road?
Hi! interesting info.
My wife and me we are going to cross to Ethiopia in two weeks, and would like to know what about the info about the danger or bandits or even terrorist in this road. Is it safe?

According to the locals who working in the custom office on Kenia side after Chinese start building roads they did a good job and punished few robbers here... so now it's should be safe. Just beware some Maasai can be little bit bellicose (but usually you have to do something for this like stay on "their land" or take a photo without asking and arranging the price).

We did this route heading North a month ago and it's fine, seems safe. all the police and army we met assured us there was no issues.
there's a guy in Marsabit called Jamak +254 0721 886113 Echo Adventure Africa Safaris who can help with any problems, nice guy, if you have an issues/get stuck etc he can support, he has experience with picking up and transporting bikes.
There's quite a descent from Moyale which I wouldn't want to do when really wet so keep an eye on the clouds.
We were on GS650s which handled the roads well, worst place was in Ethiopia where they're currently handling 800km of road works at one time!

It's very interesting how different other drivers have experienced this road. We did it with a BMW R1200GS and a Yamaha XT660R in February 2014. It were the hardest two days in my 35 year of bikers life. And I already drove many thousands of gravel roads in Europe, Namibia and South America.
The moyale road offerrd us big wholes, rough gravel and rocks, partly sand and corrugated. First or second gear, besides the first section we drove 10-50km/h. I damaged my rim of wheel. We were lucky that the road was dry and dusty and not wet. I have seen horrible pictures about mud sections. After getting through we kissed the tarmac.
But things change and the Chinese are fast. Maybe now it's already all tarmac!?

Good Road
The road is good - and the chinese are doing a fantastic job, well, too good a job that it has taken the challenge out of it- as for safety, there is nothing to worry about due to the numerous contractors, equipment and Govt investment - security is non issue and is this is no longer the northern frontier of yesteryear.

Interesting to read. Any current info on the safety of Turkana route? Would be the more scenic option I guess.
