Mali - update
Hi,
I am considering setting off from Morocco to SA through the West Coast on a motorcycle in May. After investigating possible routes I am a little concerned about passing Mali. Does anybody have an up-to-date information regarding security on the South of Mali?
I have read trip reports about an alternative routes through Guinea, Ivory Coast and either Burkina Faso and Benin or Ghana, Togo and Benin. Any thought on that?

Here is a list of Travellers who did the west route at 2012-2013 or are on the way on my blog.
Trans-Africa: Gerade Unterwegs...
Some crossed mali, some drive arround.
It is not an easy decission what route to take. But since the riskarea also covers parts of nigeria and cameroon - i think i would still cross Mali, south as possible.

I'm already two weeks in Mali now and I'm intending to stay for another two or three weeks. There is absolutely no security problem in the south, plus there are virtually no tourists here, which, from my point of view is invaluable from many perspectives.
So my word of advice would be: please avoid Mali!

What do you mean when you say "the south"?
I am currently in Ghana and plan to be crossing into Mali in about two weeks. I would like to be able to cross from Burkina as far north enough to see Dougon and Mopti but if the situation is too bad I will stay further south. Have you traveled in these regions or have you heard good info about them?
