Nigeria - Cameroon border crossing
We will be in the Ekok area in 2-4 days and would like to hear from anyone doing the northern Gembu border now that Ekok border is closed? Maybe we could do this route together.
Cheers Alan

How did it go?
Hey,
Would be very interested in your feedback for crossing the Nigeria Cameroon border? Did you cross at the southern border near Calabar?

Hi, I guess you are familiar with the violence in the english speaking territories of Cameroun? If Ekok as the main border is closed - because the anglophone crises has become worse and worse. Cameroun Military fears a negative influence few weeks before the presidentail election - i guess the northern even smaller border posts are not recommendable. As a Tourist you are not a main target, but 1. there have been already hostage-takings of expatriate workers and 2. you may be will be suspected to be a mercenary trying to destabilize the Country - we made that experience last year, when the Situation was not as hot as it is now. I would seriously recommend to check that before you are going to Cameroun now through the anglophone territories. best regards Chronist

Hi Guys,
We crossed the Gembu border between Nigeria to Cameroon. The Ekok one is closed for non-locals as the government in Cameroon do not want Westerners to see what's happening there. I wouldn't recommend the ferry, even for motorbikes as you could wait more than 10 days and the cost is crazy.
There are no Boko Haram security issues and this part of Nigeria is still considered safe by the army and police.
Please check this link Openrouteservice Maps that you can download showing the route we took. We stayed in Gembu and got our passports and TIP stamped out the for the next day so we could leave early.
It took us 10 hours to pass the 120 km between Gembu and Banyo and its a challenging route but as long as it hasn't been raining a lot (we did this in the rainy season, but it didn't rain while we did this) its a great finish for Nigeria.

I have done this crossing a few days ago.
Coming from Cameroon crossing to Nigeria.
It was 4 hours riding time, from Banyo to Gembu.
You get the stamps in your passport at the border.
The carnet get stamped at the customs in Gembu.
Crossing at Ekok is still not a good idea.
