Oil Change in Agadir or Dakar Senegal

Hello,

I am finding it difficult to find good quality motorbike-specific oil in Morocco (at least the last few cities I have been in).

I'm currently in Agadir and heading south. Dakar is on the way for me.

I currently have about 5,000 km's since my last oil change about a month ago. The bike has Motul 7100 15w/50 in it at the moment - so a good quality oil.

The stated service interval for my 2009 G650GS is 10,000km, but I generally change sooner than that.

I'd like some advice on waiting for another ~2,500 km's to get to Dakar and changing there. Will I have better luck finding good oil for sale than I am here?

Thank you in advance...

Nick

Try another idea.

Many bikers have reported using diesel engine oils with no ill effect. If your bike has a wet sump clutch it can be contaminated by the friction modifiers used in car engine oil that's why there is a motorcycle specific product. I have heard tales from that some Harley and DR 650 manuals state that diesel oil is a second best option, however these are anecdotal comments and not confirmed.

It is unlikely that you'll find any bike specific oils the further south you go, however I recommend to look out for KTM dealers who cater to the expat bike riding set. I saw a number of them throughout Africa but don't know about Senegal.

I was in Dakar a few days ago and the options I found for an oil change are:

- yamaha motors, they had motul and other brands

- hardware store downtown called "Bernabé": they had IPONE Synthetic oil

- Toubey Moto (mecanique generale)
Rond Point des Mamelles - Dakar
Tel: 33 860 25 22 - 77 648 56 10
Email: toubeymoto@hotmail.fr

There were only big bikes in the garage. They had Motul and Champion oils. I changed my oil there and got a very good service and cheaper than yamaha motors.
