Togo to Cameroun ferry

can't find any on the net.
trying to avoid nigeria from mali to camaeroun

Hey IMHO I strongly believe that getting a ferry in Lome to Cameroon could be more hassle than going across Nigeria. It is true that at the moment there is some trouble in the south east but it is very localised and you do not need to go there to reach Cameroon. Besides this, bypassing Nigeria in an African tour would be a very big miss.
If you need extra info send me a line and I shall be more than happy to help out. I spent more than half of my life here and I am still alive and going strong(on my bike)

I think most people taking the west route are thinkering about crossing Nigeria. While we originally planned to cross it anyway, the recent events following the muhammed-cartoons made us decide otherwise. Now with the current situation in Chad and the ongoing Darfour conflict it's getting a bit unclear what the "best" route would be in that region. While we intent to cross Nigeria when possible we too are looking for info on this ferry... (backup plan). I guess we'll see what to do when we get there...

Tarisius, do you have a view of the situation in northern Nigeria at the moment?

Nigeria is not as bad as the media make it out to be as most of the trouble is in the North and down in the rivers state. There are a lot of people in Nigeria that will gladly assist with information and route suggestions. I have also done a lot of travel within Nigeria and am planning to go through there again in August. You can also let me know what route you were thinking of travelling as well as the month of the year and I can check with the local guys if it would be safe or get you in direct contact with them.

At the moment Nigeria is very busy deciding if a third term for president
Obasanjo will be a good thing or not, the catoons have lost a lot of their excitment(luckily)

I believe the north is quite calm at the moment. Yesterday night I had a missionary in my house who travelled all the way from the north in a Toyota pick-up with the symbol of his congregation on each door and nothing happened to him. There is no news of unrest apart from the Warri/Port Harcourt area where the risk of being kidnapped is real but not particularly likely.
That said the risk of a common criminal attack is there as it is in Europe or any other part of the world. Well here it is a bit more probable. I would like to know if anybody can report of a biker who was attacked in Nigeria. It is possible that some officer will try very hard to separate you from some of your precious cash but normally it turns out in a joke if managed well.

I might just take you up on the offer. We will be spending a few days in Lagos as I have a lot of friends there. This may turn into a few weeks depending on the socials:-) At present we are in Ghana and will be here until August.

As you say there has not been an attack on a biker that I know of. The only incident I ever had in Nigeria is when we were at one of the small villages past alecko beach one of the local "Lost souls" through sand at us but no harm was done.
