Question Question on renting a bike in Botswana

Hi! I will be in Botswana in late October for a couple of days and wanted to use them to rent a bike and roam around, see places, do some off road time. Can anyone advise where can I rent a dual sport bike in Botswana (I will be in Gaborone) and where to go and what to see there? Is it OK to travel alone or should I look for a tour guide? Can anyone suggest who to contact locally? Alternatively, could it be better to choose Johannesburg, South Africa to spend those few days available to me for a short motorcycle holiday and do safari riding there? Any advise and possible local contacts much appreciated! Thanks! Normunds.

For Botswana info, start here: Botswana Guide For Self Drive Campers...

I do not know of any Bike Rental places in Botswana, but perhaps ask these guys: Webs - Free website, free hosting, free webpage - Make a web site with photo albums, blogs, videos, forums and more!

You can comfortably tour Botswana by yourself, but you won't be allowed into National Parks with a Bike.

There is a place called "The Hunter's road" on the Border with Zimbabwe which is not national park and state owned where you can ride off road, see lots of animals and camp wild without being disturbed.

Not a lot of help really but was out there in 05, I hired a bike in Joberg and rode into Botswana as I could not find anywhere on the internet. Whene I got to Gaberone I asked around but have lost the details and was told of a place that hired motorcycles, had a look in passing and they appeared rideable if a bit old.
If you are already out there ask the hotel or locals. Main roads are pretty good with potholes, off road is vey good.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
