Has anyone ridden from sesriem through the park gate to the 2wheel drive carpark on the way to sossuvlei? or do you need to do a tour from windhoek? thanks ron.

You can ride to the first carpark without problems.

You can also ride to the “second one” without being a part of a tour:

...but the roads between the first and second carpark tends to be a bit soft:

No problem riding to the car park. It's a great road and you'll certainly see all the hubb bubb at dune 45; but there are lots on the way, too.

There's a shuttle open air land cruiser thingy that will take you in to the big dunes and the other sights. from there you can hike on your own. no need to get a tour. but go for sunrise and get there early. it gets HOT... sunset is good too. So try to see the dunes under both lighting.

I was there in December and it was awesome. You can read my Namibia stuff here:

WorldRider: Journey of Adventure & Discovery

and you'll see great photos from the park!

Ron, you might just read this in tima: the previous message is accurate. Bear in mind that you can combine sossusvlei with deadvlei. I found that site even more beautiful. Enjoy!

Jeez, I love that bit of track, especially very early morning when everyone else has stopped off at Dune 45 to catch the sunrise.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
