Spares in Mali

A local mechanic just fried my battery while putting it on to charge in Segou, Mali.

I have just spent the last few hours searching for a new battery here without success. Whilst there are lots of motorcycle shops selling small scooter batteries, I cannot find anyone selling batteries for larger motorbikes.

I assume there must be some available in Bamako.

Can anyone recommend a store selling parts for larger bikes.

cheers

I'm in a similar predicament in Fes but a replacement battery has just been brought to me.

One of the suggestions I received was to use a small car battery mounted in the top box. Good luck!

Bamako

Matt, when you get to Bamako, if you stay with Jean-Bakir (on the road in from the East, N12 36.134 W07 56.133) he runs a Transalp and should be able to help with a more permanent solution. Superb food and comfortable accommodation as well. Say 'Hi' from the Beast of Burden crowd. Good luck, Richard

bamako mechanic

In the Bamako Grand Marche ask for 'Le Marrocaine', he has a business specialising in bigger bikes and knows what's available and where. When I was there in February he helped me track down a sprocket for my Tenere.Good luck.John.

Thanks all for your sugestions,

I managed to find a replacement battery in Bamako, most likely from the same store as John.

Unfortunately I neglected to GPS the point, but for future reference the store is in the grand marche, about 30 metres north of the BICIM bank. They also seemed to be able to source sprockets, some DID chains and a few other pieces for larger bikes.

cheers
