TransAfrica – Westcoast – South/North - recent Infos anyone?
Hi all,
I have done the East Coast in 2009 but I am hearing that this is a piece of cake compared to the West Coast.
Congo’s:
-Is there a way to bypass these countries by ship? It seems to be quiet a hassle to get Visas only for that very short stretch
Timing:
-Plan is to leave in August next year and do the first leg from East London (Southafrica) to Libreville (Gabon) in about 4-6 weeks.
I am grateful for any piece of information.
Thanks a lot, Alex

You ask a bit generally.
I try to maintain a list of travellers from 2011 upwards who did the west route and write a blog or website:
Trans-Africa: Gerade Unterwegs...
There you find all informations you need. For shure there are more travellers, because many dont write a blog, but it is better than nothing.
If you have detail-questions, ask :-)

Alex are you 2up (just wondering the reason for such a large bike ?)
Did you you travel with Ted for a while on the east side as well ?
Also you will more than likely catch up to us as we are leaving in May/June 2014 (our bikes are in Cape Town) but cruise rather slow, as we will take maybe 5,6 or even 7 months to get to Europe.
Cheers

Hi,
No 2 up, just me. Chose the bike because it's sitting in the garage ;-)
Also we made some good experience on the east coast. Big tank, luggage capabilities, etc...
Maybe we meet up somewhere....
Do you think I ll find storage somewhere in Libreville?? Have to leave the bike there after first leg...(if I make it there)
Happy Christmas

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
