When to buy plane tickets out of Mali / Burkina?

My wife and I are planning to fly home out of Burkina Faso or possibly Mali (one way) in Jan 08. I'm just wondering if there would be any advantage/disadvantage to buying plane tickets at the point of departure rather than before we leave the UK? Would it be more difficult or expensive to buy them in Ouaga for example?
All experiences and opinions much appreciated.

Cheers James.

Thumbs up flying home

Hey, many thanks for your message, I've been told today that flying from Ouaga is much more expensive than Bamako, can you remember roughly how much your ticket was last year?

i'm not sure about the cost, you could check on point-afrique. but definitly not more expansive than Bamako and lot easier, friendlier.will check and give you the details.

We flew back from Bamako on the 1st November, we were travelling with others that didn't have tickets (we arranged ours before we left the UK - about £250 from Africa Travel Centre). We flew Royal Air Maroc via Cassablanca. They were resurfacing the runway, and cancelled flights with no communication - or very confusing info - should all be sorted by the time you go though.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
