R1200GSA on leaded. What effect?

Heading up to Bolivia in next 3 weeks. Our 'Footprint' Guide to S America says only leaded fuel is available in Bolivia except in La Paz. Can anyone enlighten me as to the effect leaded fuel will have on our bike?

Hadn't heard that no unleaded available.
Maybe the info you got is old, as most modern cars/trucks require unleaded?

Far as I remember, leaded fuel will ruin your CAT convertor on your GS, maybe cause 02 sensors to go crazy? Maybe shut down engine? Dunno.

But I'm betting UN leaded fuel is available ... although I hear some places will not sell fuel to foreigners or bike with foreign placa. !Que le via bien!

Thanks Mollydog. It does make sense that it would be available but there seems to be quite a bit of info out there that it isn't - albeit a bit out of date in some cases. I'm hoping someone out there is in Bolivia or just been through it and can get me up to date info. Whatever the answer is, we're going there, not going to miss Bolivia!

Already replied check the other thread you started. Done 8,000k here and no problems with getting unleaded fuel (it is low octane stuff though!)

Thanks

Thanks Ride the World, thanks Mollydog.
Much appreciated. Looking very much like the info we had was out of date and the availability of unleaded isn't a problem.
Now in La Serena about 400K North of Santiago and moving ever northward (Alaska or bust)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
