Could you post the url to the new forum please? I hadn't twigged it was new owners but noticed I keep getting emails from advrider, which never happened before. It was getting too big anyway.

Was that my reference to a new site? I was referring to my other experience of VS taking over a forum, not to Advrider (at least as yet as far as I know but these things can change quickly). I could be wrong (and frequently am).

Hello, I just found this forum. I haven't used advrider for very long, but it is interesting to read this thread. I find that the mods there are extremely misinformed, stubborn old men. Even if you show them the page in the service manual, a published book, a paper or an encyclopedia, they absolutely insist they are correct--facts be damned. I'm not sure what the average age and education level of these mods and "old timers" are, but it seems quite low.

I also have an issue with their constant advertising masquerading as news articles, without disclosing that they are paid ads. They have repeatedly advertised products from sanctioned countries, such as Russia. When you call them out on this, they delete your posts.

Also, I found that if you post a negative opinion on a motorcycle product or accessory, or criticise any motorcycle product company, they will harass you, insult you and sometimes delete the posts, as well. So if I buy a widget from a company, and their claims are wrong, that isn't allowed to be discussed on their forum.

I don't know if it has always been like this, to some degree. But the site is pretty worthless from an information standpoint if you can't have honest discussion of any commercial activity, and a bunch of uneducated, misinformed mods insist that no contrary viewpoints may be discussed.

This is a very strange post. I suspect there's more to it than what you're saying. I've been a member on ADVrider for 15 years and have many thousands of posts.

I've never known the mods to critique technical information and can't imagine a scenario where the mods would ask for pages of a service manual. That's just bizarre.

Now... other users might call you out if you post incorrect information, but that's not the job of the mods.

Do you have a link to this? What's your screen name over there?

I've also posted quite a few opinions and reviews of gear and other products, some of those reviews are quite negative. Never had a mod say anything or delete any posts. I've never heard anyone else have this happen to my knowledge. You must have really pissed off someone!

I have to say, you've had an unusual experience...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
