Bike insurance USA/Canada
Hello all
Planning a 4 month solo trip across USA/ Canada commencing 1 May 18.
Have had previous bike insurance quote from Motorcycle Express for $525 + $60 but, there latest quote (Dairyland) is now $1828 + $120.
They are indicating that there previous insurer is no longer offering traveler bike insurance.
Does anyone have suggestion on possible cheaper options?
Any responses would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Go on line and you should be able to find something easy. (and much cheaper)
I use Geico and it covers me in both US and CA. Insurance is easy and required in most states and Providences.
You did not say where you were from or where you will start off from. If you need a "local" address that is easy to come by. Use mine if you want, send PM. Just ask here if you need an address where you will start from.

I have just insured my UK registered bike with Progressive, they are possibly the only one with an option for foreign driving licence holders to enter their licence number. A US address and phone number are needed and 12 months cover was about the same as 3 months would of been with Motorcycle Express.

I use progressive for car and bike insurance, and recently had occasion to make a claim (first time in 40+ years!). THey were really, really easy to deal with.
I don’t know how it works for non-USA nationals, but I’ve done almost everything on line—signing up, paying premiums, taking vehicles off and putting them back on, etc.
Hope that’s helpful.

Good to hear that they are helpful, I did everything on-line and it went smoothly, I was expecting to be rejected at any time but they happily took my details including UK driving licence number after clicking the international licence (license) option.

Thank you to all.
I will check out your suggestions and let you know the outcome,
As far as starting point, bike and l are flying into Seattle at the start of May.
The bike will then be sea freighted out of LA at the end of August.
Cheers

If you are coming into Seattle I am 90 miles south. If you need anything let me know and we will make it happen. Maybe I can slip away for a run up to Mt St Helens or Mt Rainer. Both should be on your list to see.

Gday mate.
Up until recently I had a bike that I stored in LA. I had it fully insured with Progressive. On my last visit I had the misfortune of being cleaned up by a car in the LA hills. Fortunately no damage to em but the bike was written off. Progressive were very easy to deal with and pad out the bike plus 1 k for new gear and paid for a hire bike for the rest of my trip down to Baja.
Was a huge difference to dealing with insurance companies here in Australia.
Can reccomend

Hello all
Thank you for all your replies.
I did eventually go with Motorcycle Express for the insurance.
They sold me Dairyland Insurance for approximately $1200 for the 3 + 1 month insurance periods.
Regards

Wow! Do I understand correctly that you are paying at a rate of US$3600 per year? That’s incredible. Could you give some sense of what levels of coverage you bought?

Don't understand here, as a potential TCAT rider in the near future this caught my eye and especially a UK entrant signing up with 'Progressive' i thought it was a 'no brainer' plus the after purchase experiences..???!!!

Hi all
I have attached a copy of the Dairyland Cycle Insurance costs for 1 month.
You have the option of picking your own level of cover for each category.
I did try and use the Progressive Insurance web site but had issues as l did not have the required info to fill in the web based application forms. The system would not allow me progress the form, until each section was completed. So could not get a costing on required insurance.
Once again thank you to everyone for your comments and help.
Cheers
Gino
