Cornwall move
Anyone familiar with Torquay? Looks like we're moving down there after Christmas and it would be good to find out about any clubs down there once we're settled.
Not sure where we'll be just yet but are focusing on the Torquay area, I could do with some advice about house prices down there. Is this Miller Countrywide estate agents Torquay | Property for sale a good indication of house prices down there? Up here (Leeds) you're better off moving out a bit to get more for your money, but I'm not sure if it's the same in that area as it's more rural.
Any advice welcome

First thing you need is a geography lesson; Torquay is in Devon

Torquay - the English riviera rather than the Cornish riviera down the road
When I'm fantasising about moving down that way I use Zoopla to see what I could get for my money. There's plenty of places around but you'll find anywhere in a resort town goes for a premium. Move inland and there are some amazing bargains but you'll have to like rural isolation and sheep in your garden.
I have a friend who's an estate agent in Bidiford (on the north coast!) and she recons there's about a 20% gap between like for like from my area of Oxfordshire to North Devon resorts- probably less in the south, but close to 50% in the rural centre. Not sure how Leeds house prices would stack up against that. Most of her sales over the last year or so have been London equity releasers moving out and locals doing buy to holiday let. Mainly cash buyers.

Ha, yes, of course I totally meant Devon, I was just, err, keeping you all on your toes...
But thanks, I'll have a look on zoopla. I'm happy being inland and fairly isolated, it'll be a bit of a culture shock I imagine but it will be anyway, wherever we end up down there.
Thanks

and we make good in Cornwall.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
