Help decifering GPS cordinates?
I've been given some GPS co-ordinates in the following format:
37N 0338762
0682699
I know it is somewhere near here: 6.24499, 37.57761 (within a few miles I believe). Is anyone able to show me how to convert the co-ordinates I have been given into this decimal format?
Cheers
Andy

If you want the ultimate accuracy you need to know two things about the reference;
The projection is how the spherical globe has been distorted into a flat page - different methods are used for different purposes depending on what is wanted.
The datum is the correction used from a given reference point.
From your given data a guess can be made as to the projection, the datum is impossible to guess at .. and can lead to errors of ~100 meters... possibly more. If you want more accuracy than this you will need to ask the source of the information for the datum used at least.
----------------
Let us assume this is UTM projection ...
Zone 37N
easting 0338762
northing 0682699
For the northern hemisphere using datum WGS84
37.542751336544384 North
6.174356986248382 East
... from
Geographic/UTM Coordinate Converter
If you want formulas ... google convert UTM to decimal degrees ..

Thanks Warin, really appreciate the help. 100m accuracy is fine - I just needed to locate the village I am supposed to reach.
Cheers
