Never again
I will never ride off on brand new tires and cross a metal manhole cover.
I knew perfectly well that new tires still have some pesky, slippery chemical on them (release agent from the mold apparently). The shop that mounted the tires warned me to be careful for the first 50 km. They stamped the bill "warning - new tires are slippery". I rode away from the shop slowly and made a turn across the cover at, maybe, 5 - 10 kph. I may as well have been on a sheet of ice. Zero traction. Crash.
This slippery new tire thing is a bit crazy.

A batch of Margueritas frozen in the old camelbak is a much better choice IMO - thaws slowly so as to keep you from guzzling too fast.

I will never:
Not stop in a small town "because I can hit it on the way back".. cus you never do.. well you could replace small town with "do anything"
Plan on doing more then 250 miles per day in a strait line and think i will see anything or enjoy it
again pass up a good thing.. no mater what it is...
stick to a plan..
not take my camera (with lots of back up!)

Mexico City and a GPS

I didn't and I go lost. And drove all over Mexico City ;-)

"I will never take on Mexico City, again, without a working GPS..."
Twice, on separate trips, I had problems with my GPS and spent hours trying to get through Mexico City. The second time I tried my best to take the toll road around the city, but somehow I missed the turn off and next thing I know Mexico City is staring me in the face.
Add a one hour delay for a street demonstration, then stopping for food and all told it took about four to five hours to get to the other side of the city, as the sun went down, then it started to rain... Here is the screen shot of the route (GPS trace) through Mexico City.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
