Insurance help needed

I am English and living in Denmark.

I am in the process of buying a second hand bike in the UK which I want to ride back to Denmark.

When I collect the bike the V5 will be in the previous owners name and I will have a bill of sale from him.

I have contacted Carol Nash and received an e mail back from them saying they could not insure me as I am not a UK resident. Is this a bog standard reply from someone who has no idea what they are doing? I was under the impression Carol Nash was the bees knees for world travellers.

How can I get the bike insured for a few weeks so I can have a UK tour and then ride it back to Denmark? I want to do this the legal way because if there is an accident I want to be properly insured.

I really would appreciate some help as I collect the bike on the 20th July.

Steve

Get it insured by a company in Denmark?
Or get it insured in the UK on a UK address. Ask the chap you are buying it from if you can use his address.

When you get the bike back to Denmark aren't you liable for import tax or luxury tax (?) of about 200%? Or is that why you want to keep all the paperwork British?

If I use an English address and then have an accident there is every possibility that I will not be covered. In fact it is a fraudulent application.

I cannot get an English registered bike insured in Denmark.

When I get the bike to Denmark the bike will go through an import inspection and then I will pay 180% import tax. It will then be issued with a Danish plate.

But I need to get UK insurance in order to ride it home.

Steve,
Carol Nash are simply one of the dozens of middle men in the insurance agency business; a few years ago they "sold their souls" from being a specialist in motorcycle insurance to joining up with the rest of the agencies to offer any kind of bog standard insurance that makes them a quick return.
Their telephone based staff are probably no worse than all of the others but, like the others, they are not trained to deal with diffiicult cases, especially because such cases are one-offs that make little profit, for them.

I don't think this is correct:-

You can answer the insurance questions positively without saying that you are no longer domiciled in the UK; they will want to know about your previous insurance record, including the data on your driving licence, and details about the bike and where it is kept in the UK.

Anyway, I think your case is twofold -
You need to register the bike in the UK for the time you are here and then transfer the regis to Denmark - if the bike is regis in the UK then one or other of the brokers will insure it subject to you holding a driiving licence that they "like".
Now you are going to tell us that you no longer have a UK driving licence!!!

If you look at the trip paperwork forum there are various sticky threads in there about insurance issues. One of them is about UK insurance brokers;
I use ebike for the convenience, to me, of doing everything online at any time of day or night.

Maybe consider putting your moto in a removals truck. Could be simpler/cheaper to do.
