Thank you for your knowledge and contribution to this thread.
I’m very sorry for your loss.

I too was born in the UK but have only ever had an Irish passport. I have never had any problems entering the UK, even during ‘the troubles’, although I do know people who have.
I have been thinking about getting a British passport lately - I got a letter from the government saying I need to pay £26 if I want to continue to work in Britain (even though I have lived and worked in the UK my whole life), it did make me think that it may make my life easier.

On the other hand an Irish passport is one of the best in the world to travel on and we have often thought about moving over to Ireland so my wife would qualify for one - we shall see.

Sorry if this is a thread hijack.

Irish

Thanks for the kind words. Irish passport is an excellent passport to have

https://www.henleypassportindex.com/passport

The Henley Passport Index is a guide to passport by country and visa free requirements, Ireland is ahead of the UK by one point. Also, the cost of visas is less for example if as a UK Citizen you want to travel to India you need a visa it is more expensive for a visa for India with a UK Passport than an Irish one, an English guy Motopangea is travelling the world on both UK and Irish passport and I checked this fact and he is right. Also, for example you can enter Russia on an e visa whereas a UK passport has to obtain a full visa...more money and time.
Also, Ireland has a lot of soft power, basically everyone loves the Irish and it doesn't have a post colonial legacy. If you can get an Irish passport, one of the best in the world, and it suits your needs then get it...though its a convoluted process and costs money!
Be kind and be safe.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
