Laminating Documents

As we have to show documents so many times I'm wondering if there are any legal objections against laminating your official documents like drivers licence M/C registration and conformity document. They are already been looked at so many times that they start losing bits and pieces and get filthy from touching of course. But dont want to end up in problems at a border for having laminated them.Anyone got a sort of official; answer on this subject?

I took good quality colour copies from all of my documents and laminated them.
I have shown my copied driver´s license to a police countless times and have had no problems

Australian driving/riding licenses are allready laminated. And the size of a credit card. Laminating also helps with water proofing. I can see no reason why laminating something should invalidate it, as long as it is not damaged and both sides are visible.
I agree with copying where possible - some documents have water marks or other things that don't copy well. But I copy those anyway .. if someone notices I should be able to produce the original. Where possible I reduce the copy to credit card size to keep with the other things.

Just a little word of warning; I used to laminate my tax discs. On one occasion, it got eaten by my laminator and scrunged up into a lump of smoking plastic snot.

Probably safer to laminate copies and keep the originals in a quality waterproof document pouch.

Good quality colour laminates got my bike into the US when I shipped it over to New York from the UK and across every border from there north to Alaska & all the way down to Argentina.

I had the originals with me safely tucked away just in case as I was unsure at first, but if anything, once you have a good colour photo copy laminate the UK V5 vehicle registration document looks even more official & is so much more robust.

I wasn't so lucky with my driver's licence as it was a little skew-whiff. Clearly required more practice on the laminator!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
