Something over half a million for me so I guess at my age and that I am more a cyclist than motorcyclist now means I will not make it to seven figures.

I haven't the faintest idea how many miles I've done by bike or even by car. I only have the vaguest notion of how many miles I do on foot every year despite it all being recorded by Garmin / Apple / Fitbit.

I have noticed on some mainly US based Facebook bike groups that some people post up reports of amazing mileages, so I suppose a million miles chugging up and down interstates on endless Iron Butt rides wouldn't be that unusual, but that's never been my thing.

Yeah, for a few years I was clocking up 50K a year (long commute plus riding for work) and it was miserable. I do about 10K a year now and it's awesome

I remember that stat being chucked around in the 70's / 80's, with people arguing it was too low or too high or the sampling was faulty or whatever the issue was. I'm not sure how it's made up - whether it includes a dozen bikes that do 5 miles to the MOT station once a year being balanced by someone else who does 40,000 a year or whether they only count pizza deliver scooters or whatever. I think I've done about 8000 bike miles in the last 12 months but most of those were concentrated into a small number of long trips. By contrast, most of my car miles (about the same - 8k) were done as short commuter style trips in the local area.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
