MovedThread: No thank you...........eu

Hi

These are the new laws that the EU are trying to pass in Ireland, around 1000 riders myself included brought Dublin city to a standstill today to protest these new laws.............Time will tell if anyone was listening.

1- The Anti tampering Regulation: Specifically Article 18 which wants to stop all modifications to complete power train, from airbox to controlling the rear tyre profile.

2- Compulsory ABS. If we can't stop this, we must get a switch so that we have an option in difficult conditions where ABS doesn't function well.

3- Automatic headlights on- passing the blame for poor observation on to us.

4- OBD. On Board Diagnostics so that easy roadside checks can be made of our emissions and so that constant readouts of engine performance can be obtained. Expensive, complicated and with the threat, rather like a tacho, of identifying past riding style...

5- RMI. Repair and Maintenance Information. Rather than keeping it hidden and available for huge expense, there is a chance that manufacturers will be forced to provide ECU codes etc for a fee. What that fee is remains to be seen.

6- The very worrying article 52: "If systems, components or seperate technical units on a list in a delegated act to this regulation, have a dual use, for vehicles intended exclusively for racing on roads and for vehicles intended for use on public roads, they may not be sold or offered for sale to consumers"

So if your K&N filter can fit a CBR race bike and a CBR road bike, the best way to police that, is to make it illegal to sell the filter in Europe.

The Delegated Acts are the most scarey thing, as they are the lists and details drawn up by the unelected and we won't get to see what they are including until after the Regulation has been passed!

7- In solidarity with the French we will be drawing attention to their recent gov proposal to ban all bikes over 7 years old from an urban area and to make the wearing of day-glo/ reflective clothing compulsory.

8- Full sleeve day-glo clothing for riders and passengers has been proposed in the Irish Parliament too.

9- All these issues lead to the same thing, that we must take the blame for the incompetence of other road users. And while the emergency stop has been removed as a compulsory element of the car driving test, we are jumping through hoops with ill judged UK interpretation of EU licencing directives.

10- Another EU licencing Directive is on its way (3DLD) to step the bike licencing system still further and the DfT and DSA still haven't sorted even the consultation process, even though it is meant to be in law by now and enacted January 2013.

I was on a MAG protest ride today. With a bit of luck the EU will be bankrupt before these sh!t ideas become law. After reading this nonsense I feel like voting UKIP at all future elections.

Moved?

Why was this thread moved?

A good many HUBBERS don't bother reading anything in the HU bar and this thread needs to be read before we are all forced to swallow the EU bollox.

I recall it was in the Bike Friendly Accomodation section.... It has a better chance of being seen in the Bar and is IMHO a Bar room topic.

Petition signed - annoyingly MAG didn't have a start point for the ride at Silverstone, so anyone at BSB couldn't express their opinion.

It strikes me that this is a thin end of a wedge that might end up with an 'OEM parts only'. Ouch.

Apart from the poor spelling, it is very poorly worded, unprofessional and does not spell out the issues. It will get nowhere. I would not sign one like it in he street, I will not/can not sign this.

If you browse/google the web you will see people are signing it without knowing why, or what it is about.

I also doubt many motorists knew what he hold ups where about on Sunday, apart from "bloody bikers" pissing about.

I would hope that MAG (are you reading this Paddy ?) get their act together and start a petition, properly worded with all major points in it. Then I may sign that.

If you look at the rejected petitions you'll note that you can't start two on the same subject (fair enough, the Hanging lobby would swamp the site). Get the required 100000 signatures though and you get the debate in Parliment or if the government don't want that they quietly do what we want. The spelling sorts itself out once the machinery of government starts turning. The fact that the first guy to think of using the Downing Street site couldn't spell is just a sign of the times.

The fact that we all know what it's about despite the bad spelling but some will choose not to sign over how it's worded is why it will not to get 100000. Reminds me of the Life of Brian "Popular Peoples Party for the Liberation of Palestine! **** off, we're the Peoples Popular Party.... "

The debate is not guaranteed, they can and will weedle out of it.

The fact that the 1st guy to put up the petition did not have the sense to use a spell checker is a *worrying* sign of the times, he was probably more interested in being "the one" to launch the petition than what it was about.

And it is not a fact that every one knows what it is about, which is why it should be listed in he petition, like the OP did. That is why it will no get to 100,000.

When it times out, I hope MAG will be ready with a proper one.

And personally, I am more a fan of Group Actions for Motorbikes :-)

(I must use another PC.... the keyboard is winding me up now)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
