The new Enfield Himalaya has been launched
Yesterday 2nd February saw the launch of the new Royal Enfield Himalaya, a 400cc single cylinder adventure bike aimed initially at the Indian market but hopefully will be available elsewhere eventually. It is a whole new bike having little or nothing in common with veritable Bullet which it will still be sold along side it.
The full specification is here but to me it looks like a purposeful medium size which if the quality is good should make a good travelling bike for those of us who like to keep things small and simple.

Heavy for 25hp, but good stock tank although with a carb it's likely to be inefficient, looks lovely though. Would be a good alternative to the Bullets and Thunderbirds for doing the Ladakh circuit, but wouldn't go for that over an XR, DR, etc outside of India.

New Enfield Himalaya
If this could be manufactured in Brazil or Argentina and sold in Mercosur (South American) countries (to avoid import tax) like the Honda NX400 Falcon for less money, and a deal could be made with an existing brand for spare parts distribution and maintenance this bike bike might sell very well.
I like the 400 cc R E Himalaya on first sight.
Honda really is highly regarded throughout South America, but there is at least one Enfield distributor in Argentina - and they
manufacture R E side cars. A couple years ago ...I visited the sales office and assembly plant and was very impressed with the owners (WOW) and well - the whole operation. Here is the web site.
ROYAL ENFIELD - MOTOS - SIDECAR - ACCESORIOS - ROYAL ENFIELD
It is legal for a tourist to enter Argentina on a 3 - 8 month tourist visa, purchase a new or used Argentine registered Royal Enfield - side car optional and tour Argentina and then sell or park the bike in Argentina forever.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
