Restricted motorcycle licence ?!?!

hi

me and my mate are going from Liverpool to cape town via turkey, then ferry crossing to Egypt an so on... my brother would like to join us but hes on a restricted licence as hes 22, will this be a problem?? does he need full licence for international drivers licence??

all help appreciated.

Not sure but plz make sure you got your carnet cause it will be prop in egypt two guys stayed in damietta egypt for two weeks and couldnt get a carnet now they will go back if you need any help in damitta port egypt here is my mail bikerbsa@gmail.com

As I understand it he would still be able to get the International Driving Permit (IDP) with a stamp in the Motorcycle box.

His UK driving licenses is what is valid so he would still be restricted to 47bph, the IDP is just a translation of a your valid license so not license its self.

The driving licence shouldn't be a problem but the travel, as in medical insurance might. To be covered most or all policies require that you have a full motorcycle licence, I am not sure what your brothers is classed as but it is worth checking with your insurance company first before setting off. When making a claim for a motorcycle related accident they have been known to ask your see your licence and refused to pay when it has not met their requirements.

When you say restricted do you mean an A2 licence as introduced on the 16th of January 2013? or do you mean an A licence issued before then but with the 2 year limited bhp restriction?

Either way from everything I've researched they are full licences but with restrictions on power and as such as valid as a full licence with no restrictions.

The only thing I could see causing a small problem could be some official who is unfamiliar with the recent changes brought about by the 3rd European Licencing Directive and who wonders what the difference is between A2 and A.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
