Yes, there's been better years than 2020 - for me anyway. Anyone here have a positive 2020, where, despite the bug and all the restrictions and everything else that happened, the year worked out well for them? A year they'll remember for positive rather than negative reasons?
2021 - the year where I'm going to achieve all the things I've been looking to do, all the backburner plans, all the wishlist items, all the lifelong regrets, all the 'one day' thoughts and ideas. All going to be ticked off one by one and the ledger balanced. By this time next year I'll be able to look myself in the eye and say 'well done, I knew you had it in you'.
But then again I said the same last January and look how that turned out ...

Thanks Grant. Happy new year to all and let's hope it'll be somewhat less shitty than 2020.
Personally, my 2020 was actually quite successful. I've been going full tilt at work and even managed to garner some overtime for the big bucks. Even though I was initially laid off / furloughed in the spring due to too many people abandoning ship due to Covid fears (quite literally since I work for a shipyard :-)), I was hired back on 12 days later when they realized that they had gotten rid of too many people too quickly. In the meantime our government gave me some cash to spend to keep the economy going.
I managed to donate to charities serving the less fortunate and I relished the introvert's dream come true excuse of "sorry, can't make the party ...Covid, you know!
When the stock market tanked I quickly leveraged myself and invested, managing a 60% return in 8 months to finance future travels.
Interestingly, even though (late) 2021 looks more promising for everyone with vaccines on the way, it may actually be less successful for me personally. Contracts are drying up at my company and no one knows who will be employed or not come summer. Normally that would be a good thing since I could just go travel. But, Covid ...you know!
...Michelle

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
