What to do with the bikes at the end of the trip?
Once the trip is over in a foreign country, what to do with the motorcycle? Many countries don't allow selling used foreign vehicles, and shipping it back home can be very expensive. Our 3 Americas tour ended in Argentina, and now we are looking for an adventurer who would like to take on a trip going north from Brazil to the US. We have 2 KLR650, 2008 and 2007 with Washington State license plates. Anyone interested? We could sell them in April when we arrive in WA, and buy them back in the US once they get here.

Hi jaimes1880 and welcome,
Many people bite the bullet and pay for them to be shipped home, some sell them on, their are a few advertised here but I have not heard of your idea and I see no reason not to do it. You might have to accept that their new owners might get attached to them and not want to sell back or they might be in poor condition but apart from that give it a try.

Yes, it's certainly worth a try.
Personally though I wouldn't buy something off anyone on the 'promise' that they will buy it back at a later date for $x, unless of course I was buying it for silly money then it wouldn't make a difference if they changed their mind so as long as your prices are very realistic it might be possible.
As Mark says, it may not turn up at your doorstep in the same condition that you sold it.
You can of course just pay to have the bikes repatriated but you know that anyway.
'Tis something of a conundrum

I think with ever growing shipping costs; the buying and selling of travel bikes will become more common.
And the ways to do this will become more developed and advertised. Legally or otherwise.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
