wHAT IS YOUR RANGE ON A STANDARD TANK FULL?
Today I managed 225 miles on my `91 XTZ660 and I still haven`t had to switch to reserve. This strikes me as pretty good  . Can anyone beat that?

That's pretty good. The 660 is renound for 70-80 mpg if treated with kid gloves.
However, you'll find that the throttle goes all the way round and strange loud noises eminate from the rear end, the bars go light and your smile will be too big for your helmet!

My ural will do about 150 miles on a full 19 litre tank, but could manage about 190 (45MPG: my max ever). Consumption is by far my biggest gripe with the Ural.
My Honda XR400R, seems to have managed a consistenet 75 MPG (tarmac not dirt) giving me about 170 miles on the stardard 11.4 litre tank or 360 miles with the Acerbis 22 litre tank its sporting!! Shame the saddle only has a 80 miles limit before I have to stop and fill up on @rse padding and anti-inflammatories

derbi senda cross city 125 - 8 litres will get me 112 miles, but cause the fuel tanks so s**t it usually cuts out when theres less then two litres in the tank.

when I first got my 1985 R80Rt it would do 280Km before i needed reserve. after a basic service and new needles and needle jets it now does 320KM ( 200 miles) without needing reserve. My best ever mpg was 57 when accompanyinga diesel Enfield from france to Germany. ( running at 55-60mph) he was getting about 170 mpg

Riding back from Ireland to Somerset last summer on my 650 v-strom on the M4 near Bristol the last bar on my fuel gauge started flashing after 230 miles and after another 20 miles i pulled in to fill up, i could only get 17 litres of fuel in the tank even though it holds 22 litres from dry, so im guessing that gives me damn close to a 300 mile range!  (riding at a steady 80 mph)

Interesting, the Derbi Terra Adventure will get me between 125-135 miles before the reserve light comes on. In theory this means I've got 2.5 litres left in the 11 litre tank, but the other day I rode another 20 miles or so and still ended up putting 9 litres in the tank.
And the one time I pushed my luck and rode till it spluttered to a halt I got just over 180 miles.

My Haobon 125 would always give me around 40km/litre when I was in China.
I got 450kms out of one 11 litre tankful and it still wasn't empty.
Given fuel in China was only around 60c per litre (12 months ago), this represented about the cheapest motoring you could imagine.

Finally hit reserve at 250.4 miles today. That works out at 69mpg if the spec is correct at 3.5l reserve.

Shiny new Yamaha XTZ660 Tenere, was returning just over 60MPG when running in, first fill up after running in returned just shy of 70MPG, should equate to about 340 miles on a full tank, what a bike

220 miles on a 650 transalp with a 19 litre tank, but only 17 litres went in when i filled it up so i guess 250 to a tank full in general riding.

I have just filled the tank on my 02 Triumph Tiger, the trip was reading 199 miles and it took 18 litres to fill which works out at 50mpg, so 250 miles per tank should be possible with its 24 litre tank.

They don't know how to test touring bikes
I regularly get over 300 miles from the 29 litre tank on my 1300 Pan Euro (not the sort of bike you often see here, but it suits me at the moment) and I've yet to push it home (I did once fill up and got 29.4l in, not sure how that worked). Reading the road tests I was expecting nearer 8miles/litre or even worse but I have never sunk that low, even on long autobahn trips.
I suspect the comics are geared up to test sports bikes, and ride all bikes the same; as though they are on a track, getting the knee down and taking it to the redline every time they accelerate. I may push on a bit if I need to be somewhere (I use the bike to commute when I can), but if I'm touring, I tour (I'm so eccentric). I stop to look at the view; I dawdle through pretty villages; I follow interesting looking signs; I each kilos of cake and drink litres of coffee in small cafes. I then stop for regular comfort breaks.
OK, I should ride a Deauville and save money on tyres and fuel, but with Mrs MarkE & me on board I like a bit (lot) of surplus power (and my fragile male ego requires I ride a BIG bike). When I feel more secure at work (too many redundancies around at present and I might be next, especially if I spend too long on HU in the working day) I will be getting something to keep the Pan company and be more suitable for unmade and bad roads, and I'll be interested to see how that does, and which I ride more often.

about 964 Kms... or a smidgin over 600 miles .....  on my 650 Thumper
as the two elkamet extra tanks are plumbed into my main tank- that could technically count as 'one' tank
I know...I know...where's my coat.....
