Who would you take?

just for fun - I have a question. You are off on a long term trip and you can take one person with you, who would you take? Dead or Living ( just to make it interesting. )

I have a brother who is 14 months younger than me. He rides a 250 dualie and does a lot of trail riding. In fact, I've often thought I should ask him if he wants to go for a long tour.

Blimey, that's got me thinking.

Actually, I know who I'd take but as she's married to someone else that might cause a problem or two .....

But this is a fantasy question - right?

It would have to be my 9-year-old daughter... She is very light, corners well, happy behind me of more than 8 hours in the saddle per day (we made it from Manchester to Prague last year! ;-) )and because it is my only daughter she forces me to drive very safely. not only that I can still (only just) tell her what to do!

I would take my girlfriend. To travel with a stranger means taking compromisses insted of enjoying the trip...

I have already done most travels with the better half
So I think the next trip should be with a grandson
They can fight amongst themselves as to which one gets the seat though

Carol Kirkwood and/or Kirsty Young.

I'm generally not too fond of a Scottish accent, but I find at my time of life .. I'm prepared to overlook the odd blemish in a bird.

Does inflateable Ingrid count? She did a lot of miles in the sidecar, Dragon Rally, Elefanten Treffen etc . I fear she is now beyond even what the puncture repair kit can solve though and has gone to the big adult store in the sky. I was asked by a rather posh German lady why she looked surprised and was quick enough to point out how an English set up on German roads did not always make for easy overtaking

Not sure if you're a fan of the old Ogri cartoons, but there's one where he does something similar except when it rains "Ingrid" gets to ride the bike and Ogri sits in the sidecar operating the controls via string or something. Of course he gets pulled by the cops ....

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
