Lisbon to Athens
Hi All,
First time posting, looking to get initial information on a trip that I hope to take in two years.
My goal is to ride across most of Europe from Portugal to Greece on a 4 month trip. This site is amazing but also a little bit of information overload.
So who's done a similar trip? How did you get your bike there? Would it be practical to buy and sell in Europe? Any border issues? What were your expenses like? What were your favorite places?
I'm so excited to start working towards making my life dream come true!

Hi Anm89
I did 7 trip in Europe for the past years. As Gallos said there is no borders issues (one you are in Schengen) but beside that England (not yet join Schengen) and some others.
You need to get a Schengen visa (depend on your nation it could be easy or difficult).
Lisbon (they call Lisboa there) is a good point to start as you can easily ship from anywhere in the world. You should ride north up to Porto then ride North up to Spain then head up to the Alps, Italy...the I will prefer Easten Europe as it is much cheaper and less traffic, more nature...I think for a 4 months trip for halp of Europe is not much time as there are many things to see there.
Other option that you can easily hire a 125/250 bike there but they are not allow on highway. If you hire other such as BMW, Triumph, Ducati (Europen made) it cost ~90-120 Eur/day for long term rental you may have better price. You can easily hire from one city and leave the bike in another city...
One you are in Schengen you can only reconized different country by language as there is not border checkpoint...
If you have your plan, please keep posting then I may give some advive
Have a great trip

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
