Wanted: Overland clothing

I'm heading over Europe, Central Asia, Mongolia and Russia this summer. Its going to be boiling hot. It going to be freezing cold. I need some gear but am on a (tight) budget!!

Does anyone have anything they are willing to let go second hand or hire for the trip?

I am 6 ft 1 and 38 chest. I usually take 'medium' and if longer cuts are available that is better.

Not sure what would be best. Something with lots of venting and that is NOT black!! I can take waterproof overalls so not overly fussed.

Cheers,

David

I can't help you personally but charity shops might have some cobber in. The ones by us usually do.

Ebay is full of bargains too.

I bought my £120 riding pants for £30, my £60 waterproof for £10 etc etc !

A shell suit and white trainers won't protect you in a fall.

Thanks for the innovative pointers there...

Looking on ebay and Revit is sparse. Other recommendations? I'm thinking its going to be SOOO hot on my trip that its better to dress summer and then take overalls and extra layers.

Come on guys, someone must have eaten too much this winter!?

Aldi and Lidl regularly have biking gear in, and reviews from a few who've bought it say it's good stuff for the money. Check out their websites for when deals are happening.

J&S have an Ebay shop which sells off their last season's gear pretty cheap:

Have a look for some akito dessert stuff on ebay ,my dad got some for sixty quid of a mate of mine and it really looks ok, it's not too expensive new so you should get some cheap,it's like a copy of the revit or bmw type style but still has the warm and waterproof seperate inners that you can take out when it's hot and they go in the pocket on the back ,there's quite a few vents you can open up too and it comes in a light tan colour .

E bay

Type key word 'tuareg' into ebay. Usually stuff on there and tuareg gear tends to be good for hot climates (dependant on year as specs change).

Failing that, hein gericke have a seconds shop on ebay and that stuff is worth checking out....

If your talking biking gear, well I can't help, but otherwise normal clothes will be fine - thats all we wore - black being great to hide the dirt!!!

Maybe describe what you are looking for ....

Essentials for Central Asia

Flip Flops, cheap t-shirts, fleece, shorts and a pair of trainers. If I were going to spend some money, it would be buying a pair of trousers that zip into shorts. I got a pair for 30gbp ....

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
