Canada and USA insurance company - help
Hi folks,
I am really struggling to find an insurance company on my 30 days crossing from Canada towards Mexico. I read a lot of tops and contacted many insurance companies here but all the "usual" insurance companies are no longer providing these services. Any latest recommendations are very welcoming!!!
Many thanks

Hi Mez,
I have emailed many of them but so far, there're two - motorcyclexpress and segurogringo. Though they are very expensive, let's keep in touch in case we find something affordable.

Doug:
Be aware that both Canada and the USA are generally considered to be one insurance market - in other words, if you obtain a policy in Canada, it also covers you in the United States, and vice-versa.
This is absolutely, for sure, the case for vehicles that are registered in either Canada or the USA. There is a small possibility that if you obtain insurance for a vehicle registered outside of North America, it might be specific to either the USA or Canada, but I think this is unlikely.
There are a number of long-running discussions here on the forum about obtaining North American insurance for out-of-continent bikes. The organization whose name comes up most often is Motorcycle Express in the USA. I've used this company before (a long time ago) to ship my moto across the Atlantic, and they are professional and know what they are doing. They are an insurance broker, not an insurance company. Their website describes what they offer for out-of-continent registered bikes.
The other name that comes up frequently is Progressive Insurance. They are an insurance company, not a broker. You would need to write them to make an inquiry.
In each case, do confirm that the insurance coverage that they offer is good for both Canada and the USA, and that they will provide you with a Canada-specific proof of insurance slip.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the info.
I have reached out to Progressive and they are no longer providing this service for foreign vehicles, you're right about motorcycle express, though they are deadly expensive, I am hoping to find a cheaper provider by the time I start packing!
Thanks a lot

Hi guys,
joining the thread as I'm in the same situation. Got a Germany-registered bike, need insurane for 6 weeks this summer for CA and US. Motorcycle Express is the only quote I got, but super expensive.
TourInsure from Germany and Fernet no longer offer insurance, would be interested to hear if you find a good deal.
Thanks, Heiko

Usa/Canadian insurance
I have found a company in Halifax Nova Scotia who will provide 90 day liability only cover ($2million cdn) no cover for bike,no extensions
Not cheap but will provide cover.
They quoted me for a european registered camper $1884 cdn plus credit card charge 3%
For only 90 days !

THE thread on this subject is at:

ANY new information is best added there, so people don't have to hop between the two threads to find the latest information.
Thanks!

Canada and USA Insurance
I bought cover i n the UK before I left with Motorcycle Express and it was exorbitant. It ran out while I was in USA and I went to a local auto insurance broker who covered me with Progressive for a fraction of the price. As the USA is still 3rd world in such matters I had to have a US address papaerwork could be mailed to, so I could use their reply forms. I used my hotel so it worked out fine.
My USA insurance covered me for Canada also.

Progressive IS indeed still insuring foreign vehicles. I'm a Kiwi on a slow round-the-world trip (6 months per year) on my '74 Norton Commando - I'm currently in the US where I left the bike in 2019. I arrived back in May, took my Commando out of storage and re-insured for 12 months, full comp for agreed value of US$30,000 for USD $375. This is the third time I've insured with Prog in the US, on subsequent visits.
You'll need a US residential address (I can help if you need one), and there's a series of small hoops to jump through. Don't try doing it online on Progressive's website - that process doesn't accommodate foreign driver's licences. Just call them and they'll fall over themselves you help you.
Lemmyno if I can help further.
Cheers,
John
