Mauritania
23/11/2010 I own some property down on the Moroc / Western Sahara border, and a girlfriend of mine from there whos fathers in the army has just told me that a business man from Algeria has just been beaten to death by al-Qaida in Mauritania and two motor homes, one Italian and one French have gone missing. The King of Senegal or at least the head if there is no king (I can't remember what she said) anyway he's visiting Morocco to see what they can do about the problem in Mauritania as its affecting Senegal in a big way. I was off next week to Morocco (to catch up with my friend) then heading to Senegal for the winter. Not sure now, will watch the situation. I'm not sure where to paste this info around, if you guys know please tell who you can.

Mauritamia
No she didn't, apparently its all over their local TV now. Don't get me wrong I've been warned not to go just about everywhere I've been and still rode it. But hey, that's what this thread is about, I can only tell you what I know, the rest is up to you. But if you see someone who apparently needs help, scoot on by,,, don't stop ,,,, its not your problem.

o so dangerous mauritania
Hey folks!
The (unofficial) results of the last elections, closing at 20 Hrs. were announced in the national TV by midnight!
After 14 years of peaceful residency in Mauritania I could give you some information and assure everybody that the situation is quiet, secured and that from the side of Mauritanian authorities there are no restrictions for travelling in the country- excepted the military zones east of Nema and the whole north-east bordering Algeria, the Polisario-zone and Mali.
Be welcome and come enjoy the beautiful Mauritanian desert.

Bab Sahara
I was in Mauritania back in June, an American riding alone on a Harley and I stayed at the Bab Sahara. Jus the owner is a man that can be trusted to tell it like it is. Jus knows Mauritania very well. I had a great time staying at the Bab Sahara and visiting Mauritania. If your thinking about going to Mauritania email Jus for current info and just go. Make sure you check out the Bab Sahara it's a very cool place to hangout and explore the area from.

@Bab Sahara,
are you saying it is impossible to cross from Mali to Mauritania (taking the road from Kayes northbound)?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
