Sudanese Visas
Hi Guys

I am a Brit riding through Africa [South to North] and plan to enter Sudan from Ethiopia mid October -does anyone have any recent experience of getting a Visafor Sudan in Zim or Kenya .Most grateful for any comments

Hi,

I'm doing the same trip starting 01-09 in Cape Town. I went to the Sudanese Embassy in London and they advised me to get the Visa in either Addis Abba
or Nairobi

Same north to south
NZ'er currently in Greece looking at maybe air freight to Khartoum (avoiding big expenses of shipping via Egypt - maybe). Waiting for Sudanese embassy in Athens to open to see what time frame for visa application/processing.

Athens Sudan visa update
Dropped into Sudan embassy in Athens to discuss visa requirements. The coolest, nicest reception there ever! Indications were 2-3 working days (for NZ citizen, assuming similar for European - maybe more for US). One essential requirement: Need a 'sponsor' in Sudan - this can be a letter from a hotel, confirming booking (which you may or may not use!), an invitation from a friend/business acquaintance....not a huge deal to organise, but a slightly different requirement to other countries visa requirements.

Today US sec. of state visiting - helicopters hovering, police everywhere, US embassy looking like a city block big fortress. By contrast Sudan embassy a converted house down a shady street - staff there having coffee and smoking at a little table outside

Hi all

today I collected my Sudanese Visa from the embassy in Addis Ababa!

This follow a failed attempt in London and other failed attempt in Nairobi where they said they did not give out visas to road travellers.

You need your passport, 2 passport photos, 1 application form AND a letter of invitation. I recommend and used The Acropole Hotel Khartoum, if you send them an email acropolekhartoum@gmail.com the owner George will book you in and provide you with the necessary letter of invitation.

We arrived at the embassy at 8 am and waited with hundreds of other people shortly before 9 we were joined by several others doing the same thing Campers, motorcycle and bicycles. Once inside the process started and the 5 others were sent out because they had no letter of invitation, so they all took a photo of ours and went off to find an internet cafe. We waited about an hour, paid $68 and told to return at 2 pm the next day.
We arrived waited until about 2.30 pm and the gates were opened and we were let in to collect the passports with visa stamps. All the people waiting outside were not foreign travellers but locals looking for work permits etc and were not allowed in. The process finished at just before 3 pm.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
